Anxiety Disorders – Generalized and Social Generalized and social anxiety disorders are the most common types.
While generalized anxiety can be caused by many factors, social anxiety is caused by a phobia of social situations. There are treatments for both and a person can function normally if given the right care.We have all experienced anxiety at some point in our lives. It normally manifests at times when facing situations that make us uncomfortable.

Usually, people experience anxiety while waiting for medical test results or during a job interview. This is normally a mild form of the condition and is considered natural, even positive. Frequent and constant bouts of worry and anxiousness however can indicate an anxiety disorder. At times it can be a simple bout of nervousness, at other times it is a full blown attack of terror.

 

Generalized Anxiety Disorder One of the most common types is generalized anxiety disorder.

This condition occurs in 1 out of 50 people. Women are more likely to get it. It can occur over any number of activities and events. The constant worry or tension even when there seems to be no reason for it is one of the biggest indicators of generalized condition. Studies show, that this issue has no definitive cause though genes play a very important role. Generalized condition is known to manifest from as early as childhood days. Persons suffering from this form of disorder find themselves worrying over seemingly trivial issues.Other anxiety symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder are fatigue, headaches, and difficulty concentrating.

There are specific tests that need to be done to diagnose a person with this condition. These tests help eliminate other causes. Without anxiety treatment, a patient can suffer from generalized disorder all throughout his or her life. In many cases the anxiety disorder has a very mild manifestation and it is possible to lead a normal life. However, in other cases where it affects a person in a large manner, treatment is required. With the right treatment however, it is possible for a sufferer to function normally on a day-to-day basis.  Doctors normally prescribe a combination of medication, behavioral therapy and counseling.

Social Anxiety DisorderSocial anxiety disorders on the other hand, are a more serious form of disorder, characterized by an intense dislike for social situations. Persons suffering from this condition find it difficult to undertake simple everyday functions like shopping, speaking on the telephone or going to work. Contrary to popular belief, shyness has nothing to do with it. Research suggests that, this anxiety stems from a fear of judgment.Social anxiety disorder becoming one of the most common forms of this disorder today. Various support groups and non-profit organizations exist to help such people.

Doctors come to a diagnosis based on past history and physical signs like elevated heart rates. It has been found that this disorder strikes during adolescence and normally occurs due to past social experiences or situations. Doctors are normally able to treat a patient with medication, behavioral therapy coupled with lifestyle changes.
